今天是第55个世界地球日，野生动植物与人类一同生活在地球上。记者从国家林草局了解到，经过多年保护，我国野生动植物保护取得显著成效。
根据监测：
大熊猫野外种群总量从20世纪80年代的约1100只，增长到现在的近1900只。
海南长臂猿野外种群数量从40年前仅存2群、不到10只，增长到现在的6群37只。
朱鹮由发现之初的7只，增加到现在的1万多只。
亚洲象野外种群从20世纪90年代的150多头，增加到现在的300多头。
野生攀枝花苏铁从20世纪八九十年代的23.4万株，增加到目前的38.5万株，成为欧亚大陆自然分布纬度最北、海拔最高、面积最大、株数最多、分布最集中的天然苏铁群落。
